Murmello processes dictation on your Mac. This notice explains the app, the website, and the connections involved in getting you set up.

1. Dictation and local editing

Microphone audio is buffered in memory for local speech recognition and then discarded by the app. Murmello does not intentionally save recordings to disk. If you enable AI editing, the selected language model also runs locally. Text is passed to the local helper through a pipe; the app does not save a prompt history or send text to an online editor.

The latest final transcript and its original dictation remain in app memory until replaced, cleared with “Forget last transcript,” or you quit. This describes Murmello’s own storage behavior; macOS manages memory, system diagnostics, and caches separately.

2. Microphone, shortcuts, and Accessibility

Microphone permission is used to capture dictation. Optional Instant Start keeps the microphone active between dictations while the Mac is awake. Idle audio is discarded without transcription or storage by Murmello. You can turn Instant Start off in Settings.

Accessibility is used for global mouse shortcuts, identifying the target field, and pasting. The app may inspect the focused field’s text and selection to confirm that insertion succeeded. That context is handled locally and is not uploaded by Murmello. Permissions can be revoked in macOS System Settings.

3. Clipboard and destination apps

Murmello places recognized text on the macOS clipboard and can paste it into the active app. When enabled, clipboard restoration happens only after the app can confirm insertion. Otherwise, the transcript stays on the clipboard for manual pasting. Clearing the transcript inside Murmello does not erase text already pasted into another app or necessarily remove it from the system clipboard.

macOS features such as Universal Clipboard, clipboard managers, and the apps you paste into have their own data handling. A destination app may sync your text to its servers. Those actions are outside Murmello’s local transcription process.

4. Preferences and model downloads

Settings such as your shortcut, microphone choice, and appearance are saved locally through macOS preferences. Downloaded models stay in the app’s Application Support directory; macOS may create additional Core ML caches. Inactive downloaded models can be removed in Settings. A model bundled inside the app is removed with that app bundle.

Model downloads connect to Hugging Face and its delivery infrastructure. These providers receive network information such as your IP address and the requested file. Audio and dictation are not included in these requests. See the Hugging Face privacy policy. After the required models are installed, dictation and local editing work without an internet connection.

5. This website and app downloads

This website is designed as a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It does not add advertising, analytics scripts, third-party fonts, account forms, or tracking cookies. The interactive examples use preset text; the website does not request microphone access or process your speech. The motion control applies only to the current page and is not stored.

Cloudflare processes connection information needed to serve and secure the website, including IP addresses, requested URLs, and technical request details. Hosting and security metrics may be available to the site operator. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

App releases and source code are intended to be hosted on GitHub. Following those links contacts GitHub, which processes download and connection information under its privacy statement. GitHub can report aggregate release-download counts. macOS may also contact Apple to check app signatures and notarization under Apple’s own policies.

6. If you contact Tomas

Emailing tomasgpastore@gmail.com shares your email address, message, and any attachments through the email providers involved, including Gmail. These are used to respond to your request, investigate an issue, or discuss the opportunity you raised. Correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes and applicable recordkeeping obligations. Please avoid sending sensitive recordings or transcripts.

Murmello does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Contact information is not added to a marketing mailing list. Public GitHub issues are visible to others; do not put confidential information in them.

7. Choices and requests

You can clear the app’s latest transcript, remove inactive models, disable optional features, revoke permissions, and uninstall the app. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to processing of information held about you. Email Tomas to make a request or ask a privacy question. We cannot retrieve dictation that was only processed on your device. Requests about a provider’s independent processing can also be directed to that provider.

8. Children and changes

Murmello is not specifically directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through this website. Contact Tomas if you believe a child has sent us personal information.

Changes to this notice will be published here with a new effective date. If the app or website’s data handling changes materially, the notice and relevant product disclosures will be updated before that change is introduced.
